How to Differ Machine and Handmade Rugs?

Those who do not take the time to compare handmade rug with machine rug may find it near impossible to differ them. This is why many store owners and even online sellers claim that their products are handmade even if it is actually made of machine.

So, how to spot real hand knotted rugs? The main majority of these rugs are made of jute, cotton, silk and wool. These are considered as the highest quality handmade rugs that money have to spend. The biggest selling point is the great durability which means that the product can last for ages if maintained properly. However, many scammers provide poorly made machine rugs to the market. Such simple and easy way to check whether it is handmade or not is take a close look at the weave. You can bring mangnifying glass to check the knots. There should be the series of knots that form the design.

The next is to notice the flat weave rugs. The weave pattern is harder to distinguish. If you look closer you should be able to find that the rug has been flat woven. Another way would be the carpet upside down and look at the back.

The other way to spot the difference between machine and handmade rugs is to turn the rugs back. The most handmade rugs will be uneven in the back while machine made ones are perfectly uniform.
